Diversity

Diversity applied in the classroom means to me that teachers are not only teaching and immersing students in the required material but also introducing your students to the cultures an beliefs of your students. Every classroom is very different and each season brings about new students from different cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs. Teachers should educate themselves on topics that they may not understand as well to help their students understand their peers different points of view.

Artifacts

These artifacts linked below are times when I researched and experienced places and people of different cultures than my own. I truly believe that it is important for all teachers to be able to at least understand their student's perspective to a degree. These assignments have enlightened me to people who are different than me.

Immersing Myself in African American Culture

In this Artifact, I went to a couple of African American historical sites. At these sites, I was able to learn about the history of African Americans from a different perspective. This experience detailed in my essay opened my eyes, made me more excited to do my own research and learn about African American History in depth.

Understanding the Islamic Religion

This artifact details a time I heard Ibtibhaj Muhammad speak about her life and growing up as an Islamic woman in sports. She gave a lot of insite to how her religion has advanced yet is still not a 21st century religion in the respects of women's rights.
